Sunday before Mardi Gras

Ten vehicles left Betty's RV park and made a convoy to a farm just outside the town of Church Pointe La. for a Mardi Gras parade and "Chicken Run". We got our vehicles parked and were given an area to ourselves between two farm buildings, which was great becaus it was a cool, breezy morning.

Below are Boomers, Rich & Terri Deacon. Terri, with her loud whistle, is our official attention getter. It's a fingers under the tongue thing.

The folks who owned the property had a party set up on one side of the farm and roasted a couple of pigs.

We were set up on the other side and had a grill set up. Everyone brought their own food (a lot of which was shared) and each had a cooler full of assorted beverages.

We were close to the end of the parade route and the first to arrive were the "Revelers".

Somewhere under this group is a panicky chicken that will be part of the night's gumbo.

Betty Bernard, the owner of Betty's RV park has as much fun, if not more, than the rest of us.

Watch for flying beads!

Tom & Nancy doing Jello Shots also from the floats. At a certain point we got tired of catching beads & started yelling "Throw Beer". Only one guy threw a can of Bud Light. Tom thoroughly enjoyed it.

Country & Cajun Music

Friday we were treated to some of the best country music we have heard in a long time. Betty's friend Judy Bailey a professional singer, who was once nominated for an Academy of Country Music award, dropped in to sing for us.

This beautiful lady sang her favorites and some of our favorites.

One thing was clear Judy was having as good a time as we were, which is a must for a successful entertainer. You got to love what you do.

It's difficult keep seated when you hear music like this. Some just want to dance!

I think I can speak for all who attended by saying a large thank you to Betty for sharing her friend with us and a large thank you to Judy Bailey for sharing her amazing talent.

Betty's RV Park

We arrived at Betty's in Abbeville on Wednesday, Feb. 9 along with our Boomer friends Linda & Jim Mossman, Bobbie & Jim Chapman and Terri & Rich Deacon. We have been awaiting this for almost a year, when we first decided to spend a month here in celebration of Mardi Gras.

This is Betty, the world's greatest campground host. She greeted us in the rain as we drove into the park.

Our first Happy Hour at Betty's. Actually I should say "Happy Hours" as they usually turn into a couple of hours.

New Orleans

Today we drove around New Orleans taking I-10 to Hwy. 90 which goes around the south side of the city. The devastation of Hurricane Katrina is still evident in many places. A lot of the structures damaged or destroyed in the hurricane still have not been rebuilt. Below are some photos we took along the way. On a more optimistic note, there is a lot of new construction, new subdivisions and businesses that have been built. New Orleans is an amazing place and her people are resilient and strong.

Traveling to Louisiana

We left Ft. Yargo on Super Bowl Sunday going southwest. Our destination is Abbeville LA where we will stay for a month. We spent the first night at a nice little campground near Greenville, AL south of Montgomery. The next night we got to Slidell, LA where we pulled into the Elks club and parked at their small but comfy campground. Below are a few photos of the area. The small bayou was just behind our campsite.
